Exhibition: Block Topia by EL HORNO

Location: Hudson Architects, Norwich

Date: Until Christmas 2016

Details: Richard Horne is a graphic designer, illustrator and author turned printmaker who now splits his time between the computer screen and the silk screen. He goes by the artist name EL HORNO.

Richard intended to train as an architect but “was turned by the dark side of graphic design”. His interest and affection for architecture is reflected in this series of prints which offer a playful perspective on some of our most well-known landmark buildings.

Richard’s technical skill combined with his off-the-wall humour is consistent throughout this eclectic series, from striking graphic depictions of Norwich City Hall and Market Place inspired by Chinese propaganda clip art books to witty portrayals of London’s iconic buildings being invaded by aliens.

New work for this exhibition includes a celebration of the 1960s tower block, inspired by the dominant structures of the three places Richard lived before Norwich; Middlesborough, Hull and Hackney, each of which have at one time been voted ‘The Worst Place to Live in the UK’.
